Pipelines are one of the main means of transporting oil and gas offshore in many parts of the world.Hydrocarbons must be transported at high temperature and pressure to ease the flow and prevent solidification.Global buckling which is called beam buckling, It is similar to Euler buckling of a slender column in which the pipeline undergoes a large displacement in vertical or lateral direction. In this study ,an analytical solution for vertical and lateral buckling of a pipeline on rigid seabed is presented and then compared with the results of numerical solution. Finally the influence of friction with assumption of same axial and lateral friction and also different value of axial friction on lateral buckling of pipeline is checked.The most important results indicating lower temperature for lateral buckling in compare with vertical buckling and direct relationship between friction and the lowest temperature rise that initiate a buckle.For numerical modeling ABAQUS software has been used.
